The Lord Mayors Procession boasts that it is the oldest continuously occurring parade in Europe, if not the world. This year it falls on Saturday 9th November 2019. In 1914 the Lord Mayor’s Procession also fell on 9th November. Times were very much different for the London Scottish then. Only 10 days before, on 31 October 1914, the 1st Battalion London Scottish became the first territorial Infantry Battalion to engage with the enemy at the famous battle of Messines. Back at home a 2nd Battalion had been raised and they proudly marched in the 1914 version of the Lord Mayor’s Procession. Below we are pleased to show the Pipes and Drums leading a contingent of 600 soldiers. This year the current generation of Regimental Pipes and Drums will be marching in their footsteps leading the London Regiment contingent, of which, A (The London Scottish) Company will be kilted as were their forebearers in 1914.
